High Speed Paper Processing Application

An Australian paper manufacturer needed to upgrade its paper scanning equipment to increase production speed and quality. The existing computer solution that managed the scanning processes was near the end of its product life and under-powered. Additionally, the company wanted to increase the amount of data collection points for better quality control. After evaluating several alternatives from multiple vendors, the customer selected a complete Diamond Systems implementation, consisting of the Athena III SBC with the existing DMM-32DX-AT analog I/O module, all housed in the compact Pandora enclosure.

Industrial Automation Tool Has PC/104 Brain

An automotive equipment manufacturer has recently introduced a precision industrial automation tool that reliably and efficiently drives fasteners (nuts and bolts) during the high speed, automated production of automobiles. A key feature of the fastener tool is the flexibility to be configured for single spindle operation, one nut at a time, or multiple spindle operation, for example installing a wheel in one single motion. The fastener torque tool also captures and reports detailed production data including at the vehicles assembly level for quality validation and manufacturing history.

A Asian electronics company offers a new intelligent, remote controlled robot for use in situations that are dangerous to human life. The Mantis robot can be used for a variety of purposes including explosives or hazardous material removal, dangerous field detection, fire brigade assistance, security and anti-violent situations, and reconnaissance and rescue.

PC/104 Innards Provide Photon Beam Control and Data Acquisition

A US National Laboratory has developed and deployed a robust and reliable platform for the control and data acquisition of photon beam applications. Based on Diamond's Athena SBC, the EBRICK platform consists of a full suite of software development tools and applications called EPICS. The EPICS environment provides a software infrastructure for use in designing and managing complex, distributed control systems.

Fastening Controller Utilizes Customized Digital I/O Module

For over 10 years, Diamond had been supplying an assembly-line automation tools manufacturer with thousands of its Opal PC/104 modules for use in a fastening controller. When changes to the customer's design called for some new features, Diamond created and supplied a modified version of the Opal board to satisfy this customer's requirements. This is a good example of Diamond's customization services program in action.
