| Octavio systems are compact, I/O-rich embedded computers for industrial applications. The form factor maximizes the space available for I/O connectors in a given location. Octavio systems can be wall mounted or DIN-rail mounted. Additional I/O boards can be installed in the enclosure and accessed via the ready-made cutout on the front panel.
Octavio-Saturn is based on Diamond’s Saturn SBC, featuring the Intel long-life “Apollo Lake” E3950 Atom series quad-core processor running at 1.6GHz, with 4GB soldered RAM. With latching I/O connectors and -40/+85C operation. Saturn provides a reliable platform for embedded computing solutions in harsh environments and improves the ruggedness and reliability of Octavio systems in these challenging applications.
System I/O includes:
- 2 gigabit Ethernet ports with RJ-45 connectors
- 2 HDMI ports with HDMI type A connectors
- 2 USB 3.0 ports with type A connectors
- 2 USB 2.0 ports with type A connectors
- HD audio featuring mic in, line in, and line out with 3.5mm audio jacks
- 2 RS-232/422/485 serial ports with DB9M connectors
- Data acquisition with 16 analog inputs, 4 analog outputs, and 6 GPIO on a DB37F connector
- 16 additional digital I/O on a DB37F connector
- DB37 cutout for user I/O expansion using minicard, M.2, or PCIe/104 modules
- 2 SMA connector cutouts for installation of minicard or M.2 communications modules
- 5VDC input power via screw-latching pluggable screw terminal block

I/O Expansion |
The Saturn SBC inside Octavio contains a PCIe / USB minicard socket and a PCIe/104 OneBank socket. These can be used to install additional I/O boards in the enclosure and bring the I/O out to predefined cutouts on the front panel. Example I/O includes cellular modem, Wi-Fi, additional analog and digital I/O, Ethernet, and CAN.
Use of these sockets requires system disassembly and re-assembly, so we recommend to order Octavio preconfigured with the desired I/O whenever possible. A full professional-quality data acquisition circuit is included in Octavio-Saturn DAQ model. Features include:
- 16 single-ended / 8 differential analog inputs with 16-bit resolution and 250K samples per second total throughput
- 2048-sample A/D FIFO for reliable high-speed sampling
- 4 analog outputs with 16-bit resolution and waveform generator feature
- Programmable I/O ranges include 0-10V, 0-5V, 0-2.5V, 0-1.25V, +/-10V, +/-5V, +/-2.5V, and +/-125V
- 22 digital I/O with 3.3V / 5V logic level compatibility
- 2 DB37F connectors: 1 for analog I/O and 1 for digital I/O
The analog I/O circuit features software-controlled autocalibration to maintain accuracy to within +/- 2LSB. Calibration can be performed under software control at any time to maintain maximum performance over the lifetime of the product.
Octavio-Saturn DIO model contains only 16 digital I/O on one DB37 connector. The second DB37 connector is replaced with a plug, and its cutout can be used for a user-installed I/O
module.
Diamond’s Universal Driver software supports all features of the data acquisition circuit and simplifies programming in both Windows and Linux operating systems. Example programs are included to streamline application development.
